The Saw-whet Owl banding is now taking place on suitable nights
Please note: there will be no owl banding on the night of Sat 28th Oct as we will be enjoying the PEPTBO fall dinner with guest speaker - Bridget Stuchbury
On all other evenings please come down and visit us for an hour or two in the evening and see these delightful owls up close
The first owl net check each evening will be 7:45pm until this notice changes. All net checks for owls are done at one hour intervals.
Remember - fewer owls are caught when the winds are from the South or East, winds that are coming from the West or North West are best.
We also don't open the nets if it is -
- too windy
- if its raining
- or if its threatening rain.
As with the policy of most other organizations or groups, the Observatory, its staff and its volunteers do not reveal to visitors the locations of any owls that have been found sitting in the trees or bushes.
This allows the owls to sleep peacefully during the day without being disturbed
