Nighttime Sounds and Sky
Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day. As part of Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory’s Spring Birding Festival, Prince Edward County Field Naturalists and South Shore Joint Initiative present Nighttime Sounds and Sky. The 2022 theme is Dim the Lights for Birds at Night. Light pollution has been shown to have a negative impact on migrating birds across the globe. This event will raise awareness about light pollution and the need to turn off the lights in office towers and other buildings at night whenever possible.
Meet at the corner of Helmer and Babylon Roads at 8:30 pm.
Radio personality Pamela Stagg (the County Naturally on County FM) will lead us on a short walk down Helmer Road. Pamela will talk about bird migration and identify the night sounds of frogs, toads and birds. Amateur astronomer Ramesh Pooran will meet us at the Helmer Road corner and share his vast knowledge of stars and the night sky. Ramesh will set up his telescope so that we will have a chance to look at some stars and the surface of our moon.
Please wear sturdy footwear and bring a head lamp or flashlight. Red mylar will be available to cover any flashlight without a red light.
