We band a number of Canada Warblers each year during spring and fall migration. There have been sightings in the South Shore IBA during breeding season but no clear evidence of breeding yet. The last Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas showed some changes in where the species was breeding in Eastern Ontario (MAP).

Dr. Stephan Lougheed from Queen's University entertained the crowd at the PEPtBO dinner on Saturday November 2 with descriptions of his experiential style of teaching in wide ranging geographical regions. Some of his students travel to Africa and Central America to learn about biodiversity and human effects on species at risk. Dr. Lougheed is also the director of the Queen's Biological Station and has an active research Laboratory at Queens. New Banding Station Opened
New Banding Station Opened at the Point
In a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Jun 24, representatives from PEPtBO, the County, the Canadian Wildlife Service and Environment and Climate Change Canada officially opened the new migration monitoring station. PEPtBO will be running fall banding from this facility. The spacious demonstration area will greatly enhance the safe handling of birds and better accommodate the growing number of school groups that visit the Observatory.
