Starry Nights with Saw-whets
Date: October 1st-31st 2025
One of three signature events, PEPtBO’s Starry Nights with Saw-whets, focuses on PEPtBO’s nighttime migration monitoring and research centred around the Northern Saw-whet Owl, one of North America’s most frequently banded owl species. They capture the imagination of experienced and novice birders alike.
Northern Saw-whet Owls migrate at night, so PEPtBO’s banding program begins each evening at dusk and runs for six hours. Throughout the fall, PEPtBO hosts several owl-viewing nights, providing participants with a unique opportunity to witness the banding of these captivating wild birds up close. Each night includes an informative presentation from our experienced team. To ensure owl safety and participant comfort, each viewing is capped at 20 participants and is weather-dependent.
