Position: Part-Time Communications Assistant (Contract Position)

Overview: The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (PEPtBO) is a registered charity with a mandate to monitor, report on, and promote analysis of bird migration. Our organization is dedicated to the protection of migratory and local bird populations through research, education, advocacy, and conservation efforts. We are seeking a part-time communications assistant to work with the Board of Directors to help promote PEPtBO’s programs and research. The ideal candidate will have a passion for birds and conservation, as well as excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to social media accounts, including creating and scheduling posts, responding to comments and messages, and monitoring engagement.
  • Write and edit content for website, newsletter, and other communication materials, adhering to PEPtBO’s social media policies.
  • Assist with creating and distributing press releases and other media materials to relevant outlets.
  • Support fundraising efforts by drafting appeal letters, thank-you notes, and other donor and member communication materials.
  • Assist with organizing and promoting events, such as the Spring Birding Festival, bird tours, workshops, and fundraisers.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Communications Committee.

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and ability to create engaging content.
  • Experience in website content creation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously as well as in a team environment,
  • Familiarity with MailChimp, Canada Helps, Canva is helpful.

 

This is a part-time remote nine-month contractposition, averaging 25 hours a month at $30 per hour. If you are passionate about birds and conservation and have strong communication skills, we encourage you to apply.
